What is WRONG with people?

Image
What is WRONG with people? I find myself saying this more often than I would like.    But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. (2 Timothy 3:1-5 ESV) I think the world has gone crazy.   But it has gone evil. Whatever happened to the golden rule?   Why do people think it is ok to stab someone over a seat at a track meet, to key a car because they don’t like the owner of the company, or shoot a businessman on the street because his company hurt you?   This is what the world has become.   Paul writes it clearly to Timothy.   Many p...

What Easter Means to Me

Image
Good morning all.  It is close to Easter, which is my favorite time to celebrate.   This Sunday is Palm Sunday when Christ made His triumphal entrance into Jerusalem.  Everyone was cheering, waving palm branches and yelling hallelujah.  Everyone was happy, even Jesus.  But He knew what was coming.  He knew they would all turn against Him.  He knew the crowd would be swayed, that they would call for and demand His death.  He knew He would be tortured and killed most horribly. Yet, He still let them have this day to cheer and be happy with Him. He went on to share the Passover meal with the disciples.  I'm sure they continued rejoicing since things had gone so well when they got to Jerusalem.  Then Jesus said that one of them would betray Him.  That must have been very confusing.  Was He speaking metaphorically, was He starting a parable?  Sometimes it was difficult to understand what was meant when He spoke....

What is stopping us?

Image
What stops us from doing what we know God has called us to do? I returned from my travels more than a week ago and I haven't written a word since I got home.  I haven't added to my book.  I haven't blogged.  I haven't even sent texts or messages to the Women's Fellowship group. Why?  The first few days, I told myself I was resting and didn't need to do anything for a while (except laundry). The next few days, I was busy - yes - that's it.  After that, I forgot about writing and just went about the duties of life.   During my trip I started this blog and started a new book because I knew that God wanted me to continue my work for Him, but for some reason, when I am home, it is difficult to follow through.  Do you have that problem too? Has God called you to do something, given you a passion for His work, or led you to take on something at church? Have you answered the call? I have been reading in Luke lately and there are many times that Jesus talk...

Importunity- Huh? Luke 11

Image
There is a story that Jesus tells in Luke Chapter 11, vs. 5-13. Many of us overlook all but the 9th verse. We want to skip right where it says "Ask, and it shall be given you, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened." That sounds pretty good.  However, the verses before and after verse 9 are significant to the meaning behind the story.  In the Bible, context is very important.  We need to understand what is being said, who it is being said to, why and by whom. In this case, Jesus had been off praying by himself and the disciples came to him asking to be taught how to pray. Jesus gives them a beautiful, respectful way to pray which becomes what we call the Lord's Prayer. He teaches them to pray for God's kingdom, His will to be done, our daily needs, and forgiveness.  All of these come from the Holy Spirit. Then He goes on with this story. [ 5]  And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto h...

The "I Don't Know" prayer

Image
As I was praying just a little bit ago, I found myself at a loss for how to handle a couple of situations in my life.  The last few months have been difficult, as many of you know.  We had squatters in our rental home that we had to pay to move out.  We had to hire attorneys to help us navigate the laws that favor squatters.  Financially, things were tight.  The house was left in ' not the best shape.'   A new renter fell through along with a deal we were making that would have benefited many people. And a truck wreck put us even farther behind. (no one injured - praise God) I admit that I am a worrier and that I always try to figure out how to take the steps that I think are necessary for the outcome that I want. (God is working on this with me).  I come up with options and I look at possible outcomes.  I pray that God will work things out but I also step in when I shouldn't.  I try to keep everyone happy, usually with limited su...

A New blog to replace Tic Tok and some words about peace

Image
For a long time, I have posted videos on TikTok under Victorious Christian Living. It is now time for me to start blogging again, hoping that God will speak through me to your hearts and minds.   This life journey is not easy. Sometimes we cry out to God asking why He just doesn't make things simple for once. Jesus told His disciples in John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." What does that mean in our daily lives? If Christ has overcome the world, why are things so difficult?  What do we want out of life? These are common questions. To answer them, we must look deep inside our hearts. First, Jesus does not promise that following Him will be smooth sailing. When we first turn our lives over to Him, we are so happy and excited, life seems simpler and just plain better. In time, however, troubles begin to creep back in.  Bills must be paid, loved ...

Just an Average Day of little Motivation

Image
Happy Day,  Today is Wednesday and Wednesdays are usually my day for picking songs for Sunday service, sending messages to the song team, practicing the piano, etc.  But today I'm having difficulty getting motivated.  Do you ever feel that way?  What is it that motivates us or de-motivates us? Believers in Christ or not, we all have days when we just don't care about anything or anybody.  We just want to be left alone.  But why?  And how do we get out of that besides drinking a 5 Hour energy drink (which I have already done today). Let's go to God's word and see what He says about it. Did you know you can google "what does the bible say about___________" and put in any subject and look under Bible Hub for a bunch of scriptures? Or go directly to Biblehub.  Here are just a few of what God has to say about the lack of motivation. First - I always wonder why am I so unmotivated? And God says... Trust in the  Lord  with all your heart...
