Do all to the Glory of God

This could be a huge topic since we make a zillion choices everyday starting with getting out of bed in the morning.

Some choices just sort of make themselves.  I get up, feed the dogs and cats, feed myself, take my pills, take a shower, get dressed all without any real conscious decisions being made.  At least, nothing earth shattering.

As we go through our day, though, there are many times when we make decisions such as how to react to something someone else has said of done.   We may have to decide if we are going to smile at the people around us, pull in front of that slow car, or eat the last brownie even though you know your spouse wants it.

I'm sure you know that the world is becoming more and more difficult.  Evil abounds.  People are frustrated, angry, sad, hurt, lonely, and struggling.  Everyone is battling something you don't know about.  You've heard the saying "no one knows what goes on behind closed doors."  Maybe their kids are doing drugs.  Maybe they are deeply in debt, or secretly smoking, drinking, gambling, eating and so on.  Maybe they have health problems or their parents are showing signs of Alzheimer's.  They may look like they have it all together on the outside but we can't really know.

And we, ourselves are also battling these same issues and more.  I know I don't want to spill all my struggles out for everyone to know about although with Facebook, there is more and more unnecessary sharing surely.

So what do we do when we come across a situation where someone is mean to us, or cheats us, or cuts us off in traffic.  What choices do we make?

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

I heard two statements recently that make my choices easier as long as I remember them.  The first was "err on the side of grace."  To me that means if you have the choice of striking back at someone or of being kind and lovely - be kind and lovely.  It might not help.  It might not change the situation at all but erring on the side of grace will not make things worse.

The second statement was "I have never regretted doing the right thing."   This is almost the same thing except that it can apply to different situations.  Perhaps you are alone and have a choice of cheating or not.  You will not regret being honest.  You will not regret repaying anger with kindness. You will not regret doing the right thing and you will most definitely regret doing the wrong thing.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
