Out of our control
There is so much in life that is out of our control and yet we try so hard to control everything. How is that working out for us? For me, it is not so great because when I can't control something or I don't know what is going to happen in a situation it is frustrating and often times scary.
I was listening to a sermon the other day about Ruth and Naomi in the bible and I am trying to put into practice what I learned.
Ruth 1:15 “Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her.” 16 But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” 18 When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her. 19 So the two women went on until they came to Bethlehem.
The story says Ruth and Naomi's husbands had both died and so they went to Bethlehem during the famine. They were poor and alone and there is so much more to the story but what I want to concentrate on is Ruth.
Ruth did not complain about her situation. She did not consider herself a victim and she did not pine over what the future might hold. There were no "what ifs" in Ruth's life.
There was very little that Ruth, a Moabite, could do to survive there so she took control of what she could. She went and gleaned in the fields of barley and wheat. She left the rest up to God.
Little did Ruth know that God was working behind the scenes to set her up with a fantastic future that would change the course of history. I urge you to read Ruth. It is a wonderful story.
For today I just want us all to realize that if we take control of what we can control and leave the rest to God, He is working on our behalf to provide what is best for us and we do not need to worry or fret.
Trying to control what is out of our control is just painful, takes up way too much of our thoughts and emotions and doesn't work in the end. If we can tell ourselves daily to control what we can and leave the rest to God we will have much greater peace and will learn to trust Him more as we see Him move in our lives.
Take a moment to look back on your life and the last thing you tried to control that worked out in a different way. I know that last year my husband and I put an offer on a house and didn't get it. I was so upset but now we have a much better house that we love. Learning to trust takes time but it also takes a decision. "I WILL trust Him" and "Your will be done" is difficult to say but the more we say it, the more we will do it.
Here is my favorite verse.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
Please try to be like Ruth and step out of your situation, take control of the things you can control and leave the rest to God. He is working on your behalf. Trust in Him.
