Life is eternal, where will you spend it?

Eternal life.  We always think of that as a positive thing.  Preachers talk about accepting that Jesus died for our sins, forgiveness and receiving eternal life but we rarely hear about the other side of the coin anymore.

Hell fire and brimstone isn't preached because someone might be offended I guess.  Or maybe because the subject of Hell is complicated and seems so cruel.

Let's talk about life.  The bible says that all life is eternal.  So when our earthly bodies die, our spirits, our souls live on.  Where and how?

Let's talk about Heaven for a minute.  Heaven is our way of saying eternity with God in joy  There is no pain, no anger, no evil with God.  God is Holy and can not look on sin and evil.  That is why we have to come to Him through accepting Jesus as the sacrifice for our sins.  Jesus makes us clean and pure by His blood.  That is the only way we can be with God for eternity.

Heaven may be another dimension or an actual place.  All we really know is that we can only spend our eternity there if we are washed by the blood of Jesus.

Now, what about Hell?  If all life is eternal, then there is another place opposite of being with God and that would be without God.  If there is no pain or suffering in heaven then there must be pain and suffering in Hell.  Hell may also be another dimension or an actual place.  What we know is that it is not with God, that God can not look upon sin and that there will be suffering.  The language of the bible was used specifically to help the people of that day to understand what eternal death will be.  Whether the fire is fire as we know it or was an illustration, I just plan to never experience it.

• And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. (Daniel 12:2 ESV)

• And [the wicked] will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. (Matthew 25:46 ESV)

• And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15 ESV). In verse 10, we are told that the Lake of Fire burns “forever and ever.”

What does this mean to us?  It means we have a choice.  We can accept the free gift from Jesus, His death for our sins, and live our eternity with Him, or we can ignore this gift, live for ourselves in selfishness here on earth, and spend our eternity in misery.    That is quite a choice.

There are many who say they don't believe in any of it and when our bodies die, they die.  However, those are also some of the same people who believe in spirits, Mediums, and all kinds of spiritual things.  They can't have it both ways.  If we live on after death, then where we will spend eternity.

There are also those who don't believe in the Bible, but the evidence from the prophecies in the Old Testament that were fulfilled in the New Testament, is quite amazing.  By not knowing and ignoring God's word, these people have chosen to wear blinders which is exactly what the fallen angel we call Satan wants them to do.

There is an opposite to everything.  Up, down, right, left, hot, cold, happy, sad, Heaven, Hell, God, Satan.  You can't have one without the other.

So the big questions is: eternity with God?  or eternity without God?

John 3:16 ESV /

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 6:23 ESV /

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 17:3 ESV /

And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

Matthew 25:46 ESV /

And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
