Standing strong
Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
This is such an easy subject to talk about when things are going pretty good. I probably should wait until I am going through something really difficult before I try to write about standing strong but I will give it my best shot and maybe write about it again later because we all have ups and downs in life. Sometimes things go along somewhat smoothly and then 'crash' something happens that feels like the bottom just fell out and our strength wavers.
Hebrews 11:1 ESV Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
I was reading some prayer requests this morning from my church. Some people are fighting addictions, many have health problems, some have lost loved ones, are looking for jobs, or having family issues.
I have had most of those in my lifetime along with other issues that brought me to my knees. How do we stand strong when it feels like everything is falling apart? It would be nice if we could just have faith, no problem, everything will work out attitude but most of us can't do that right off the bat.
My husband and I are total opposites when it comes to reacting to difficulties and it is a good thing. I react immediately, crying and worrying and fretting for about a day or two. He is strong and has faith that everything will work out for about a day of two and then he freaks out for about a day and by that time I can calm him and assure him that everything will be ok.
We are weird I know. My point is that however you initially react is ok. Don't feel like you should have it all together when bad things happen. You can give yourself time to react. However, while you are reacting, as much as you probably don't want to hear it, listen to the Lord, read the word, research what the bible says about your issue and ASK God for more faith. Remember the blog where we looked up faith and found that it is God given and we can't just work it up by ourselves.
Don't do anything rash. Wait on God. Breathe. You will feel calmer in a day or two even if the issue is not resolved. Know that God is working in the situation for your good. Don't give up. Control what you can and leave the rest to God. Ask for His Holy Spirit to fall on you and to give you His fruits of Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. As my mother always said, "This too, will pass. And please, ask others to pray for you.
2 Corinthians 5:7 ESV
For we walk by faith, not by sight.
