What are Christians focusing on?
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8
TV, Radio, Facebook, Social Media, Movies, Friends, Co-Workers, and our other activities all go into our brains. Our own situations like finances, relationships, illness, and other things fill our minds with worry and concern. Is there any room for God in there?
In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Cor. 4:4
When we let the worldly things fill our minds it only causes strife but when we fill our minds with God, we have peace and the things we are dwelling on or worrying about take care of themselves. It is a difficult lesson and very hard to do.
The world is not a positive place. People are searching for answers and instead of turning to God, the devil has them turning every which way. They are protesting in the streets, fighting among themselves, thinking of ways to destroy each other, the government, and anyone who doesn't think as they do.
The world is lost but we are not of the world and it is up to us to bring them the good news about Jesus Christ. How can we do this if our minds are also filled with all the troubles of the world? Don't be sucked in.
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. Col. 3:1,2
We must find a balance between being aware of what is going on in the world and getting so involved that we watch CNN all day long. There has to be a place in between where the peace of God and knowing that He is in control brings us His peace and takes away the fear and anger that we may feel about what is happening.
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3
Find that balance and we will be able to share with others our joy and our peace. They will look at us and wonder how we can be joyful in the world as it is. Be ready to answer their questions because they are looking for what we have. God is in control. He has a plan. We have a choice.
