The Supernatural and the Christian
Now the (Holy) Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart
from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings
of demons, 1 Timothy 4:1
It seems like supernatural things are talked a lot about these days. There are shows about ghosts, and other supernatural things, there are supposed psychics, taro card readers, magic, talking to, or seeing the dead. These things are an abomination to the Lord. And yet, people are fascinated by them. We are blinded to the truth of these practices. They are evil and they will take your mind from the truth and simplicity of God's salvation through Christ.
Goodness from the Holy Spirit means that we do what is good. Are doing things things good according to God's word?
...anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. Deuteronomy 18:9-13
But how can people know things, talk to dead people, and see things that aren't real. I didn't say they weren't actually experiencing "supernatural" things. But - and this is very important - these spirits are not who we think they are. These are tricks of the devil to draw attention away from the true spirit of the Holy God. Drawing you so easily away by enticing you will mean your eternal death.
The bible has a lot to say about what we call the supernatural and about the only way to God through Christ.
Think about it. When people get sucked into believing in what we call the supernatural, they are worshiping and believing in idols and things that God's word tells us are evil. They are not taking their concerns to God. They are relying on unknown spirits to help them. They are trusting in other sources. This is not from God. This is a way to split our minds between God and the powers of darkness.
And when they say to you, “Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living? Isaiah 8:19
God's way is more often than not, unseen, but these things are so available, so seemingly real, and so seen and heard. We like things that we can see and hear. It makes us comfortable and the devil knows it.
Even if these spirits profess to be of God and speak about Him as though He was their God, they are lying. We must be wary of the false spirits, false prophets, and false gods.
Even Christians can get sucked into "supernatural" things that have been perverted by evil. If you are studying something such as casting out demons, which can be a gift of God but is extremely rare, make sure that you are studying only the bible and what it says. Make sure you are continuing to speak to only God through His son Jesus Christ, and make sure you don't try to practice such a thing - ever! You are on dangerous ground.
You might be asking, "well what about God's angels watching out for us?" God's angels spoke to the prophets, appeared to Mary and Joseph, watched out for Christ, appeared when He rose from the dead, and have popped up a few times in the Bible mostly speaking to the prophets before Christ came. They will never ever detract from Christ and His crucifixion. They are not equal to Christ. If God so wishes, they will serve and minister to us but they are not to be worshiped or prayed to.
We may run into them once in awhile but never as if speaking to the dead, having a future told, appearing as a ghost, and the like. They are not fairy godmothers protecting us from harm.
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, Hebrews 1:1,2
Many Christians like to study these things and they move further and further from God's simple salvation. It would be better to study why God sent His son, Christ, His crucifixion, rising from the dead, being seen by the disciples, and ascending into heaven so that we can better explain salvation to the lost. Isn't that fascinating enough?
This is a fearful issue that we need to take very seriously and avoid, even in cartoons, movies, TV shows, fiction, non-fiction, songs, and/or concerts. You may think that you know it is false and you just enjoy watching or listening, but what we put into our minds stays there and is dwelt (or meditated) on. It makes an impact on you.
Our world is full of sin and these things are happening and becoming more and more prevalent. Again, I say be aware! Do not fall for the tricks that are meant to draw you away from the Lord. There is only one way to live forever with Christ. You cannot speak with your departed loved ones. The ghosts that people may see or think they see are workers of the devil. Even the shows you watch are promoted by the powers of darkness. It is all a lie. Christ is the truth.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God. Leviticus 19:31

God's way is so simple but it seems like we want things to be complicated. We want be involved in something strange and dangerous and fascinating. Salvation is almost too simple. We want to be amazed. We are a strange people. Trust me, God's way is amazing! Ask Him into your heart and to forgive your sins and you will experience what amazing things that God has in store for you.
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
