Make God your Comfort Zone
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted Matthew 5:4
Loss hurts. It doesn't matter if it is the loss of a loved one, a pet, a job, a friend, or an ability; it hurts. Some hurt more than others. Some hurts last longer. We have all suffered the loss of someone or something, but hopefully we have never lost God.
We should say God has never lost us. He never leaves. He never gives up on us. He never forgets about us or turns away. If it weren't for God, how could we get through the losses in our lives? The Holy Spirit gives us peace to help us through these loses. We are who we are in part because of these losses.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Even God has suffered loss. He lost His son for a time. The children of Israel turned away and then there is the world today. How many people have turned from their creator to worship other things? And what about us, the Christians? Do we worship Him for who He is or do we just call on Him when we are in need? And yet, through His hurt, He still answers us.
Jesus suffered loss. He lost Judas, one of His beloved apostles. He lost when all of His followers scattered after His arrest. He lost when all the people who had previously worshiped Him, called for His crucifixion, and He lost His life for us. He went to hell to conquer death for us.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4
When we suffer loss, we grieve. We may cry and blame ourselves or others, or even blame God, but we need to remember that even though this world is under the control of the evil one, God will make good come out of everything that happens for those who believe in Him.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
In time we will be in eternity with God and He will rule the universe as has always been His plan. Pride caused some of His angels to fall, and even though humankind did not obey His commands and separated ourselves from Him, He sent His son to bring us all back into harmony with Him. All we need to do is believe and ask His forgiveness and He will give it.
So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. John 16:22
If you are suffering a loss as I am. Remember that our Lord is near. His Holy Spirit is our comforter. The closer we draw to Him, the easier our grief will be to bear. We may not understand why these things happen when they do, but we know that our God loves us and if you look back on your life, you will see that He got you through before and He will get you through again.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 24:18
Call on God in your time of need. Breath in His peace and comfort. Trust in God in all things. This is not easy to do, but nothing worth doing is easy, right?
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27
If nothing else, hold to this verse.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3
Make God your comfort zone!
