The Future is Now
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58
Many times we believe that we are not good enough or we don't know enough to be of service to God. We think we will wait until later, when we feel ready. Sometime in the future, we will be able to work for the Lord.
God wants us to know that the future is now.
We will never feel that we are ready and according to scripture, we will never be good enough. There might come a time when we know more about the bible if we study, but God wants to use us now. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow so we need to serve now or we will miss our chance and we will miss out on being blessed for our service.
God's plan of salvation is for everyone and He uses us to accomplish His plan. If we don't do it, who will? Almost everyone I know is insecure in some way and doesn't feel ready to do the work of the Lord, must less abound in the work.
What is the work of the Lord?
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
The bible is the word of truth. It is God's word and is used to teach us and to encourage us. But it was also written to show us how to live and how to have a closer relationship with God through His son Jesus Christ.
The bible explains to us that being a Christian is not all about us. It is about others and letting them know that God loves them (and us) just as we are right now, not sometime in the future when we are better people and more worthy.
We won't get better without God and neither will they. It is our responsibility to show this to the world by our love, our attitudes, our reactions, and our lives.
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8
If we live by the word of the Lord, we will not fail in showing our light to the world. God will bless us . Even though we may not always see the results of our work, we know that God is working in every situation to bring the lost into His loving arms.
God needs us and will bless us for doing His work. Don't make Him find someone else and don't make Him wait for the future.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22
Be doers of the word. That doesn't sound so difficult. God's word says a lot of things like 'love your neighbor as you love yourself'. Hmm that might be more difficult than we thought. Then there is 'prayer for those who persecute you'. Oh this is getting more difficult by the minute.
We can see that that what God requires of us is to show the world His love and what it means to follow Him. We are to let our light shine in a very dark world. These are not scary activities, they are just not things we can do in our own human power.
God tells us that we can all do them if we ask Him for help. He will give us the strength to react with kindness to unkind people. God will give us strength to love the unlovable. God will give us strength be calm and smile when a car pulls in front of us. All that is required of us is prayer and willingness to be who He wants us to be.
