God's Faithfulness

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations, Deuteronomy 7:9

The bible is full of God’s faithfulness. He is the Almighty, the creator of the world. He is omnipotent. There is no reason for God to be unfaithful or to forget His promises. We have assurance that He will never change or go back on His word. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

How wonderful to have a Father like ours. We are faithless, sinful, and ever changing. We are imperfect, and we fail constantly. We give into temptation, and we are arrogant.

God is perfect, never fails, is never tempted and is not arrogant. He is love, and He is goodness, and He loves us. How can we not love Him in return?

If we trust Him and are faithful in return, in our weakness, God can make us strong. In our fear, He can make us brave. In our confusion, He can give us clarity. It is only our lack of trust that brings the world’s difficulties crashing around us.

He knows what troubles us and how often we are tempted to give into our earthly desires. Who are we that God would desire to commune with us, that He would send His son to die in our place to save us from eternal death?

But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. 2 Thessalonians 3:3

When we come before God and humbly ask for His forgiveness and help, He helps us.  A thousand generations of people all over the world are in His loving care, and yet, He listens to our needs as if we were alone with Him.

We see the evil in the world, the homeless, the hurting, and the vicious. We wonder how these things came to be. Satan brought them, and we accepted them as truth. We embraced them until finally we heard God knocking and our spirits jumped for joy. He waited patiently for us to come to Him.

Now we are His children once again and He will never leave us. The evil of the world is still around us but because we have chosen to follow Christ instead of Satan, God will work in our lives to show us who He wants us to be, and the path that He wants us to follow.

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? Numbers 23:19

This great faithfulness and love from our Father is difficult to understand because we are human, and we do lie, and we do change our minds. To have someone utterly reliable and perfect on our side should fill us will so much trust and faith in Him.

For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. Psalm 33:4

Even when we continue to question and doubt, He loves us and continues to work all things for our good. He only asks that we love Him and why wouldn’t we?

When we find comfort for every problem, every issue and every frustration examined and explained in His word, we have confirmation that He is faithful and knew in advance what we would be going through.

But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15

Our own faithfulness pales in comparison. May we grow ever more faithful by reading His word and holding fast to the hope of our salvation.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23

Prayer: Father, forgive our weaknesses. Make us stronger, wiser and more faithful in all our ways to you. Our troubles in the world are nothing in the face of such a great and loving God. Thank you for your comfort. Thank you for your faithfulness. We want to bring so much more than what we have to you. Our brokenness is not worthy, but you are merciful. We praise you Lord. Amen.
