It's Not About Us

They have sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins. Hosea 9:9
We, and I mean Christians, believers and lovers of God, who have accepted Christ into our hearts, are self-focused and self-centered, and we are in danger. We spend too much time thinking about ourselves and our own problems while evil takes over and sin becomes the norm. 
 It's not about us anymore. The world is falling apart. The world is so deep in sin that it is worse than ever in history.  It will not get better.  It will only get worse. 
There is more going on in the spiritual world than we are aware of. Evil is working to destroy us and we are too busy thinking about and feeling sorry for ourselves.  We should be frightened by what is happening. We should be shaking. We are in a war for our eternity. Just watch the news.
And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:12-14
God said that many will fall away.  Our love of Him will grow cold as the world keeps getting more evil. If we don't grab on to God right now with all our strength and determine in our hearts that we will stick with Him no matter what happens, we may be the ones who are judged unworthy in the end. 
You must realize, however, that in the last days difficult times will come. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unfeeling, uncooperative, slanderous, degenerate, brutal, hateful of what is good, traitors, reckless, conceited, and lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. They will hold to an outward form of godliness but deny its power. Stay away from such people. 2 Timothy 3:1-5
This is more important than how we feel today or what we did last night. This is more important than being upset with someone at church. This is more important than our financial worries. This is life and death for eternity! And not just ours. We need to be telling others about God's great salvation. 

6 And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. 2 Thessalonians 2:6-7

We are not saying that God is not watching out for His children. Thankfully He loves us so much, He is working good things in our lives. If the Holy Spirit wasn't holding back (restraining) the powers of darkness, Christians would be dead or in jail for our beliefs already.

But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:36

We not only need to stay away, we need to wake up! The time is now.  The time is at hand. America is not safe from the evil of the world. 

Attend church and read God's word. Ask for strength.  Stick together.  Don't let petty things tear us apart. We need each other and we need God more than ever before. 

Prayer: Lord, we are afraid of what is happening in this world even though you told us they would come.  Your word has always told us what would come and those things have always happened so we know that the time is near for the end to come.  We love you, we trust you.  Help us to be strong in our faith and to be bold in telling others about you. Amen.

Importunity- Huh? Luke 11

There is a story that Jesus tells in Luke Chapter 11, vs. 5-13. Many of us overlook all but the 9th verse. We want to skip right where it says "Ask, and it shall be given you, seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened." That sounds pretty good.  However, the verses before and after verse 9 are significant to the meaning behind the story.  In the Bible, context is very important.  We need to understand what is being said, who it is being said to, why and by whom. In this case, Jesus had been off praying by himself and the disciples came to him asking to be taught how to pray. Jesus gives them a beautiful, respectful way to pray which becomes what we call the Lord's Prayer. He teaches them to pray for God's kingdom, His will to be done, our daily needs, and forgiveness.  All of these come from the Holy Spirit. Then He goes on with this story. What is stopping us?

What stops us from doing what we know God has called us to do? I returned from my travels more than a week ago and I haven't written a word since I got home.  I haven't added to my book.  I haven't blogged.  I haven't even sent texts or messages to the Women's Fellowship group. Why?  The first few days, I told myself I was resting and didn't need to do anything for a while (except laundry). The next few days, I was busy - yes - that's it.  After that, I forgot about writing and just went about the duties of life.   During my trip I started this blog and started a new book because I knew that God wanted me to continue my work for Him, but for some reason, when I am home, it is difficult to follow through.  Do you have that problem too? Has God called you to do something, given you a passion for His work, or led you to take on something at church? Have you answered the call?
