Where in the world is Heaven
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor
pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4
If we look up studies
and discussions about heaven, we find that it is most confusing. Where is it?
What is it? When do we go there?
Here is the answer – who
cares? Jesus said that if we believe in Him,
we will not perish, and we will have eternal life with Him. That is all we need
to know.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his
only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
It can be interesting to
study questions such as these, but they can draw us away from what is truly important.
Believing in Christ’s death and resurrection are the keys to heaven, wherever
it is. Scripture is meant to encourage and teach us not frustrate and confuse.
Some people find deep
research to be fascinating and if they are grounded in their faith in God, there should be no problem. The difficulty we
find is that these studies do not help us with our daily struggles.
Often it is helpful to
know, when reading scripture, who is talking to whom, why, and what is
happening at the time, but scripture, even taken out of context, can encourage
and strengthen us. Our amazing God made it that way.
But as it is, they desire a better country, that
is, a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for
he has prepared for them a city. Hebrews 11:16
Heaven exists. How it
exists or where it exists is a discussion that could last for eternity. We won’t
know until we get there so concentrate on getting there.
There are many theories
and beliefs among religions that place heaven in another dimension. Some say it
is a holding place until the new earth and new heaven are created. Some say it
is Eden.
Again, who cares? We can’t
allow vain discussions to draw us away from looking forward to our place with
Christ for eternity. We desire, not only God’s love and mercy here, but an
afterlife with no pain or suffering because that is what Christ promised.
In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were
not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? John 14:2
Here is what we do know
for certain. Jesus promised us eternal life with Him. He promised to prepare a
place for us. He said it is His Father’s house so He and His Father (God) will
be there.
There will be no more pain or sorrow. We will see God as He is. We will know Him as He is meant to be known.
There will be no death or decay and it will be beautiful.
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of
the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold,
transparent as glass. And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the
Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to
shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By
its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their
glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night
there. Revelation 21:21-25
Our God has prepared a
place for us. We want to go there and live with Him forevermore. It is simple.
Believe that Jesus died for our sins, confess our sins before Him, and do our
very best to live for Him each day.
Heaven will be waiting,
no matter where it is.
Prayer:
Lord, we look forward to the place you have prepared for us. We can’t wait to
see you face to face and feel your glory in all it’s splendor. Help us to
concentrate on loving and serving you above all else. Keep us away from
anything that will separate us from you. Amen.
