Eagerly Waiting
And while they were gazing into heaven as he
went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, “Men of Galilee,
why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you
into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” Acts
1:10-11
Jesus Christ is coming again. He told us He would come,
and He keeps His promises. We don’t know when.
It could be today or tomorrow or 50 years from now, but we know He is
coming and we are not ready. We are not looking up. We are looking down, at
ourselves and at the world. We need to look up.
The bible predicts that some will try to determine the
day and time, but it cannot be determined. We, who believe God’s word, know
that the time of His coming is not to be known by us but that we are to be always
prepared and eagerly waiting. It seems that we, as a church body, are no longer
eagerly waiting.
So Christ, having been offered once to bear the
sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those
who are eagerly waiting for him. Hebrews 9:28
Unfortunately, this subject is often avoided because
of its unpredictability. When we don’t know something, we tend not to talk
about it. But this lack of discussion is part of what makes us unprepared. This
lack of interest in His coming and our preoccupation with our own lives and
problems keeps us from setting our hearts and minds on God. It also lessons the
importance of bringing others to Christ.
Instead, concentrate on what we do know. We know that
He will come again because He said He would. We know that he will come in the
same manner that He was taken up into heaven. We know that He will come when He
is not expected, and when the world is falling apart.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief,
and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will
be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it
will be exposed. 2 Peter 3:10
There have been many times when Christians felt that
Christ’s coming was imminent and yet He did not come. The more this happens and
the more we neglect to talk about His coming and look for it, the more unprepared
we will be.
The powers of darkness that rule this world use God’s
patience in coming to sow doubt in the minds of believers. And this is just
another excuse for unbelievers to convince themselves that there is no God.
The world is falling apart. Not only are there wars
among countries but also among people within our own countries. Earthquakes, tornadoes,
and strange weather occurrences are happening daily. Evil is prevalent. Strong
Christian beliefs are wavering. True Christianity is diminishing. Many don’t
believe He is coming.
This is so sad.
Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of
Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Matthew 24:44
When we think of the second coming of Christ, we think
of the book of Revelation which could easily be called the most confusing of all
the scripture. But there are many other scriptures and words of Christ Himself that
speak of His coming again. Christ’s second coming is prophesied in Daniel, Isaiah,
and in Jude.
It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh
from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones,
to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of
ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the
harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” Jude
1:14-15
We need to remember that Christ is coming again and
this time He is coming as a King, not as a shepherd. He is coming to take His
children home and to reveal and destroy Satan. We ask for His kingdom to come
and it will come. We need to prepare ourselves, our hearts, our families, and
our friends for this day.
We need to revive our spirits and stop centering our
lives around this world. Our lives must center around Christ so that we, not only
show His love to those around us now but are ready when He comes to take us
home. Complacency must be eliminated from us if we are to win the world for
Christ..
Will we stop avoiding this subject because it is
confusing, or will we trust that Christ said He is coming and begin to look for
Him? This is an exciting time. We should be singing and praising God because we
know the end of evil is near.
He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I
am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! Revelation 22:20
Prayer: Come Lord Jesus. Almighty God we
look for your coming. This world is so evil and hard to live in as Christians. Help
us follow your ways in all we do. Help us show others your love so they will
also be ready when you come. We know you don’t want any to perish and you are
waiting to give everyone an opportunity to know you, but it is getting more
difficult everyday Lord. Come soon and revive your body so that we are all
looking forward to your coming. Amen
