Our View of God
For his invisible attributes, namely, his
eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the
creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they (we) are
without excuse. (Romans 1:20 Jenni’s version)
We view God as a loving father and we should. He loves
us beyond our comprehension. He sent His only son to die to bring us back into
fellowship with Him. He cares for every aspect of our lives, leads and guides
us, and gives us eternal life with Him.
We know that we can speak in intimate terms with God
and can call Him our Father as Christ did. We can have a personal relationship
with Him even though He is a spiritual being and not physically present. But
this gift of closeness can sometimes limit our view of His true greatness.
As Christians living in
a world where things are seen, felt, and known, spiritual truths are difficult
to understand. We tend to think of God more closely to human than the omnipotent
(almighty, all powerful, invincible) spiritual being that He is. When this
happens, we sometimes trust Him less and don’t believe that He is able to meet
our needs. We worry more and have less faith.
Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am
the Lord, who made all
things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by
myself, (Isaiah 44:24)
God is not only a loving
Father but is also the Lord and the King over all the universe. We must not
make Him small but must have reverence for His spiritual greatness. Our worship
should show how much we understand the incredibleness of what has been done for
us.
Since God is a spiritual
being and we are created in His image, we are also spirit. It is our spirit
that lives on with Him after our bodies die and it is our spirit that communes
with Him now. It is our spirit that feels His presence as we worship Him.
Knowing who God really is
and who we are, can build our faith and create a stronger personal relationship
with the loving God we already know. We may live in a world where walls hold us
back, but our spirits don’t have walls and when we truly know God, all things
are possible.
Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where
shall I flee from your presence? (Psalm 139:7)
Thinking of God more as
the spiritual being that He is helps us accept that His plans are bigger than
just what He can do for us. Thinking of God as omnipotent (almighty, all
powerful, invincible) and omnipresent (present everywhere at the same time)
remind us that our lives are in the great hands of our Almighty God.
And what is the immeasurable greatness of his
power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might
(Ephesians 1:19)
God has promised to
guide, protect and help us along in this world. He has promised that we will
live eternally with Him if we love and follow Him. His son took our penalty
upon His own body so that we can call our indescribable creator, ‘Father’ and
experience a relationship that is close and loving. But He is so much more.
All things were made through him, and without
him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:3)
Though there is great
evil in the world, it will not overtake us. We have the Almighty God as our
Father, Lord and King and He is all powerful. He is not weak. He is not human.
He is not small.
“I am the
Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to
come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8
Prayer:
Almighty God,
ruler of heaven and earth, and omnipotent spirit who loves us, we are humbled.
We do not deserve such a great and mighty father. Please help us remember your
greatness and not bring you down to our level. Speak to our innermost being,
our spirits. We worship you. We love you and thank you for allowing us to have
a relationship with you as our Father. Amen
