God's Promises are True
"...not one word has failed of all the good
things that the LORD your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass
for you; not one of them has failed." (Joshua 23:14)
Daily we are in a continuous effort to build up our
faith and relationship with our Heavenly Father. We battle the enemy, making
our way through this world’s evil muck and quicksand, to God’s light on the
other side. Knowing that God has promised to be with us, to guide us and to strengthen
us, makes these struggles easier. We need to remember and hold onto His
promises if we want to be successful in this fight. His promises are true.
When we pray, Christ instructed us to ask for our
daily bread, our needs for that day and He promised to meet those needs. But
there is more that is promised to us. There are 5467 promises from God in the Bible,
for us, our families, our lives, and our eternity.
The promises in the Old Testament pertaining to the
coming of Christ have all been fulfilled. Each prophesy, each statement
concerning His death and resurrection have come to pass. We can believe God’s word
and trust that He will keep His promises, not only because we love Him, but
because He has proven that He is faithful.
No,
I will not break my covenant; I will not take back a single word I said.
(Psalm 89:34) NLT
Remembering past promises that have been kept builds
our faith in His promises for each day. We hold on to these promises to strengthen
and encourage us as the enemy throws lie after lie and problem after problem in
our way to distract us from communing with God.
Do we have to memorize these promises? Memorizing a
few is a good idea, but if we carry a smart phone, we are carrying a bible with
us all the time. The promises are just a few seconds away.
And my God will supply every need of yours
according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
God has promised to provide our daily bread, our daily
needs. What else has He promised? What else is helpful to us in the life? He
has promised that if we accept Him and ask for forgiveness of our sins, He will
forgive us. He will give us a new heart and eternal life. This is the most
important promise of all.
And this is the promise that he made to
us—eternal life. (1 John 2:25)
He has promised us a new
heart.
And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will
put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and
give you a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 36:26)
He has promised that we
will be cleansed and made new.
If we confess our sins, he
is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
He has promised that our sins will be
removed from us, that they will be buried and that He will not remember them.
These are the promises that we hold onto when Satan, the accuser, throws our
past mistakes up into our faces and tell us we are not worthy of God’s love and
forgiveness.
He
will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities
underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.
(Micah 7:19)
God has
promised to be with us every second of everyday and to give us the wisdom we
need to navigate life and resist temptations.
He will strengthen us and hold us up, giving us what we need in every
situation if we will just call on His name.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who
gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. (James 1:5)
We
often forget that God is standing ready to provide whatever we need to win this
battle. In this world we will have trouble and heartache. We will struggle and
suffer loss. This is the world we live in and it is under the control of the
powers of darkness until Christ’s return. But Christians are not of this world.
We belong to Christ and we have His promises to keep us from giving into the
world’s evil.
No temptation has overtaken you that is not
common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your
ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that
you may be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
We have
the ability today to use our computers, tablets, Siri, Alexa, cell phones, etc.
to google information about anything. Use these tools to find promises that
will encourage each other during difficult times.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed,
for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you
with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
There are
promises about finances, marriage, employment, health, children, peace, temptation,
fear, pain, and more. We do not have to walk unaware through our maze of
difficulties. God has provided ways for us to live this life abundantly with
His promises. We just have to know them, and we just have to trust Him.
There is
nothing that we will go through that is not discussed in God’s word. The bible
was given to us, not as a burden to read daily, but as a guide and
encouragement to help us in life. Remember God’s promises and if you don’t know
them specifically, at least know that He is with us, loves and protects us.
Fully convinced that God was able to do what he
had promised. (Romans 4:21)
Prayer: Lord, let us be fully convinced that what
You have promised, You will do. Praise you for your love and care. Praise you for salvation through you son
Jesus. Praise you that those promises came to pass and therefore we know we can
trust that all your promises are true. Help us walk in faith with heads held
high and joy in our hearts. Amen.
