God's Plans are Not Our Plans

God's plans are not our plans, and sometimes we wonder why not? We have an election coming up next week, and though we know that people have free will to vote, we also know that God will use whoever is elected to further His plan.

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. (Proverbs 19:21)

There are many leaders mentioned in the Bible. Some were good people who did good and followed God's will. Some were horrible and did unimaginable things to people and destroyed nations by their actions.  But in each case, God's plan continued, and He taught His people through each leadership.

Kings who did not serve God still brought about the fulfillment of prophecy, and God dealt with those who did not do His work. He will deal with those today as well.

For those who guide this people have been leading them astray, and those who are guided by them are swallowed up. (Isaiah 9:16)

Our direction from God is to obey our leaders as long as they do not contradict the laws of God. Our US constitution, though we love it, is not the law of God. If our leaders enact laws that we feel are unnecessary, against the constitution, controlling, or leading the country in the wrong direction, we still must obey them because they are not contrary to the laws of God.

God's most important law and the second greatest commandment from Him is to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves. Our neighbors are even those who disagree with us.

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. (Romans 13:1)

In the books of First and Second Kings in the Bible, we find the good and bad kings all worked together to bring about the promised Messiah, Jesus Christ.  There were more bad kings than good kings, and I define good as those who followed God and had a relationship with Him.

Rehoboam (1 Kings 11‐14)  was a bad king,  Abijam (1 Kings 14‐15)  was a bad king. Nadab (1 Kings 15)  was a bad king, and so on.  There were 31 bad kings and only eight good kings, but God's plan was fulfilled.

So what does this mean for us today? It means that God's Will will be done over the long haul, whatever happens in these elections.  We could be like those in Christ's time, who wondered why God didn't just strike down the evildoers and set up His kingdom right then. Or we can be like Christ and give to Ceasar what is Ceasars.

They said, “Caesar's.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” (Matthew 22:21)

God's plan is that all will believe in Jesus, the Christ, who was sent by Him to die for our sins and rise from the dead to bring us back into the close relationship Adam and Eve had before they sinned.  The body is made of blood, and there is no forgiveness of sin without the shedding of blood.  Therefore Christ Shed His blood once and for all for us.

Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. (Hebrews 9:22)

And now we wait for His return.  Whether it is tomorrow or 100 years from now does not matter. God's plan will be fulfilled no matter who is in the government.

So what are we to do?  We are to love. When the elections are over, we are to love our neighbors, obey the government as long as it does not contradict God.

I am uneasy that there will be protests and violence, and I humbly ask that NO Christian be involved in these.  Let us show the world Christ in our behavior.  Let us show the peace of God that the world will never understand.

Be happy or be disappointed but be Christ-like in all your actions. Pray for Christ to come soon. Pray that all of our loved ones come to know Him and accept Him. Obey the government.
